Leeds’ Poland-born England international Mikolaj Oledzki will wear a Ukrainian flag on the front of his shirt in Thursday night’s Super League match at Wakefield to raise support for those impacted by the war.
The 23-year-old prop forward was born in Gdansk in Ukraine’s neighbouring country and has been moved by the plight of the refugees caught up in the Russian invasion.
“I think I can speak for all the lads in sending our love and support to the people of Ukraine, along with our thoughts and prayers,” Oledzki told the Rhinos website.
“It is a country close to home for me and it is a tough time for them and it is a sad time because you think in this day and age we’d have put all that stuff behind us.
“It is tough but we are sending our love and support and hopefully this can end soon.”
Leeds, who will wear a new, vibrant pink third kit against Trinity, are to auction off Oledzki’s shirt on eBay, with all proceeds going to the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
