How many episodes of The Responder are there? BBC police drama launches starring Martin Freeman

Martin Freeman leads the cast in a thrilling new BBC drama that launched last Monday night.

In recent weeks, the channel has tasted ratings success with the likes of Four Lives and Rules of the Game and, now the latter is done and dusted, The Responder will take over its 9pm slot on BBC1 from this week.

Former Office and Sherlock star Martin takes the role of the new series, which turns the spotlight on the hard and dangerous day to day work done by Britain's police officers.

And, while not a true story, it should be very true to life as The Responder is written by a former cop, Tony Schumacher who put pen to paper when he walked away from life on the beat, after the job put a severe strain on his mental health.

Martin, who was Tony's 'chosen one' for the starring role in his drama, takes on the part of Chris Carson, a police response officer struggling to get a handle on his mental health and marriage.

There are FIVE episodes of The Responder, each lasting 60 minutes, with episode 2 following on Tuesday, January 5 at 9pm.

Episodes three, four and five will be on January 31 and February 1 and 2 respectively.

A teaser for Monday's third episode read: "Chris plans to hand the drugs in, until Carl makes him an offer he can’t refuse.

"Rachel strikes a deal with Mullen, but Chris' behaviour makes her feel conflicted."
