How Manchester United bench reacted to Fred goal plus four more moments missed vs Liverpool

A Rash reception

There was a sea of red at the Rajamangala Stadium but the majority of them appeared to be supporting Liverpool rather than Manchester United. The support for the Merseysiders was certainly more vocal, at the very least.

It was highlighted as the two teams took to the pitch with deafening boos for Marcus Rashford when his picture was beamed onto the large screens inside the stadium. Rashford, 24, should be the poster boy for United but right now he has a fight on his hands to win over the fanbase.

He's already impressed Erik ten Hag with his attitude in pre-season training, and now he needs to impress the supporters as well.

Vice-captain confirmed?

The new United manager made a huge call by backing Harry Maguire to keep the captaincy next season, and it seems like he has an idea of who the vice-captain should be as well.

In the absence of Maguire it fell to Bruno Fernandes to wear the armband in Bangkok, evidence of the faith Ten Hag already has in the talismanic midfielder.

Despite the presence of David de Gea and Raphael Varane in the line-up, it was the Portuguese who got the nod ahead of more experienced options, before the Spanish goalkeeper took over in the second-half.

How subs reacted to Fred lobbing Alisson

What is it about Fred and scoring brilliant goals when a manager is taking charge of their first match? He did it for Ralf Rangnick back in December, and he did it for Ten Hag in Bangkok as well.

The Brazilian doubled United's lead with an exquisite chipped effort from outside the box, leaving international teammate Alisson with no chance of getting to the ball.

Fred was mobbed by his teammates as he stood, almost stunned, in celebration, while on the bench, United's players went wild in celebration.

It is clear to see the squad's unity and camaraderie despite a difficult season and it certainly bodes well ahead of such a pivotal campaign.

Makeshift roles highlight need for summer signings

Ten Hag made wholesale changes at half-time, with the entire outfield squad changing, and in the absence of Maguire he had to get creative in regards to finding another centre-back option.

United are still working on a deal to reinforce their defence with the addition of Lisandro Martinez but until then it might be down to Telles to fill in. The Brazilian is free to leave this summer following the arrival of Tyrell Malacia and might not have many more appearances left in a United shirt if they can find a buyer.

Amad also came on at half-time in an unusual role as a central attacking option, with United thin on options amid Cristiano Ronaldo's absence and the lack of a new summer signing in attack.

Bailly being Bailly

United fans weren't only treated to four goals - they were treated to four brilliant goals. The pick of the bunch was the break away for the fourth, as Eric Bailly intercepted a pass and turned defence into attack.

The Ivorian has established himself as a fan favourite for his unorthodox approach, and he didn't disappoint this time either, by leading the counter-attack into the Liverpool box.

Bailly went from starting the move in his own half to almost finishing it in the Liverpool area as Facundo Pellistri guided an effort in off the post.
