With the 2023 NBA draft inching closer with each passing day, fans of the Boston Celtics have little need to worry about lottery luck this season. The team does not have a first-round pick this summer.
However, it might still smart to see the San Antonio Spurs in line to draft another generational talent, Victor Wembanyama, after having bad lottery luck in Tim Duncan’s draft class.
According to an analysis by Hoops Hype’s Frank Urbina, the Celtics don’t have especially bad luck in the draft. They rate as the 13th-luckiest club after having moved up in the lottery one time, down four times and staying in the same spot as where their record would have had them selecting 10 times in the last 15 years.
If it seems the Spurs have peculiarly good luck in the draft lottery, it is not just you, though.

In Hoops Hype’s assessment, the Spurs came out as the No. 1 team in terms of lotto luck over the same period of time.
