Going to the cinema will be a different experience for Leeds film fans when they return next month.
After being forced to close in March, Showcase Cinemas will reopen Leeds Cinema de Lux in Birstall on July 4 and ODEON Luxe Leeds Thorpe Park and ODEON Luxe Leeds Bradford will reopen on July 13.
Both cinema chains say a limited number of seats will be occupied in each auditorium so film fans can maintain social distancing, and thorough cleaning regimes will be in place.
There will be fewer screenings and start times will be staggered to ensure there are no large queues in the lobby. Staff will be wearing PPE and customers will be encouraged to buy tickets online before they arrive.
They will also be able to buy food and drinks in advance and pick them up from designated areas.
Showcase Cinemas is encouraging all customers to wear face coverings and use its new self-scanning ticket system.
It has also purchased anti-viral fogging machines that are designed to eliminate airborne viruses and perspex shields have been installed at all till points.
Mark Barlow, Showcase Cinemas UK general manager, said: “We are all really excited about welcoming film fans back to Showcase Cinemas.
“We’ve been busy preparing for our re-opening by making all our sites as Showcase Safe as possible for the comfort of both staff and guests, which has always been our top priority.
"We encourage all our guests to use the hand sanitiser available, regularly wash their hands, wear a face covering and practice social distancing when inside the cinema."
He added: "We’ve also brought some classic hits and recent favourites back to remind everyone just how great it is to see them in the cinema.”
Carol Welch, managing director of ODEON, said: “We’ve carefully planned every step of our guest journey and put safety measures in place that will enable our highly trained colleagues to provide a controlled and safer cinema experience for all our guests.
“New measures include social distancing in our auditoriums and foyers, additional cleaning regimes, and a request to book tickets online prior to arrival.
"We would like to thank our colleagues and guests for their patience during this period, and we can’t wait to welcome guests back to big screen entertainment and a safer cinema experience."
Everyman Cinemas and Vue have not announced reopening dates for their Leeds cinemas yet. Film fans are also waiting for an announcement from Hyde Park Picture House.
