How Kieran Tierney suits Eddie Howe's anti superstar Newcastle plan as Arsenal star 'a good fit' for transfer puzzle

Former Liverpool star John Barnes reckons Kieran Tierney would be perfect for Newcastle United - but urged the Arsenal star to hold fire on any snap exit decisions.

The Scotland defender has served as back up to first-choice left back Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Emirates so far this term, and boss Mikel Arteta has stated he held clear the air talks with the former Celtic defender amid speculation that he could make the switch to St James' Park in the summer. But Tierney has made just four starts this season for his club and with the club in the midst of an English Premier League title fight with Manchester City he looks unlikely to receive a recall to the starting line-up.

The former Celtic star could look for more minutes away from North London is summer, but former Parkhead boss Barnes admits he can't understand why he would want to leave Arsenal in the next window. However, he reckons Tierney would fit Eddie Howe's Newcastle United strategy of not buying up superstars at the cash-rich club.

Barnes told indiabetting: “I think Newcastle is a good fit for anyone. They’re a progressive team, they’re playing really well and they’re looking to go forward. They’re not looking to buy superstar players just because they’ve got loads of money. Kieran Tierney’s a good player who’ll definitely be a good fit for Newcastle but he’s also a good fit for Arsenal. But he’s an Arsenal player and Arsenal is a good fit for him.

"Of course they have Zinchenko who can also play as a left-sided midfielder and he can play that position as well. I don’t see why at this particular point of time he would want to leave Arsenal.”
