How Juventus' board exodus could impact Chelsea and Spurs' McKennie and Rabiot transfer wishes

In an extraordinary turn of events, the entire board of directors at Juventus resigned on Monday after the Turin-based outfit recorded losses of €254.3million (£219million) for 2021-22.

As per Goal, that decision has been taken following an investigation into alleged false accounting and communication on behalf of the Serie A heavyweights, with CONSOB – the body in charge of supervising activity on the Italian stock market – asking for clarification on the Bianconeri’s balance sheet.

According to Sky Italy, as cited by Tancredi Palmeri on Twitter, Juventus' situation could be as dangerous as it was in 2006. Following a major match fixing scandal, the Italian outfit were relegated to the Serie B back in that year.

The report from Goal adds that the Turin prosecutor is also investigating salary payments that were supposedly deferred during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Authorities are seeking to prove that Juve did not give up four months' worth of payments, as was claimed at the time, and that only one month was given up, with wages continuing to be paid through a series of private agreements.

If that's indeed the case, then some of their most prized assets may want to move on from the club. Plenty of their stars have been linked with transfers away from Italy regardless, but ongoing uncertainty about Juve's status could lead to some agents looking at potential moves for their clients.

Two of those are Adrien Rabiot and Weston McKennie. Both midfielders have been linked with moves to London clubs Chelsea and Tottenham. In the case of Rabiot, the Frenchman's contract expires at the end of the season. Meanwhile, McKennie's deal doesn't expire until June 2025.

With the situation so clearly on edge at Juventus, and because of the huge losses they've recorded, the Blues and Spurs could make lowball attempts to sign the midfield duo. There's still a lot of hurdles to climb first, though, so let's wait to see what happens.
