''How is it possible?' - Fans stunned as Kerry Katona has startling realisation about tampons

Kerry Katona stunned listeners as she made a realisation about tampons while discussing menstruation on her latest podcast. The former Atomic Kitten singer, 42, was gobsmacked as she and co-host Alison Spittle chatted with guest Marnie Simpson on the podcast Wheel of Misfortune.

Each week they spin a wheel to land on a different subject and they share embarrassing stories about that topic with listeners and their celeb guest. Geordie Shore star Marnie had Kerry squealing in horror as she recalled a stomach-churning tale about placing a used tampon in her bedroom bin and forgetting it was there.

"Oh Marnie you dirty cow!" exclaimed Kerry. "Why would you do that?" "Where would she put it?" asked Alison. "In the toilet," retorted Kerry on the podcast, on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds.

"What about the sewers? the sewers are getting blocked by sanitary towels and tampons," replied Alison. And an amazed Kerry asked: "I always put my tampon down the toilet don't you?" Alison joked: "I put it in a ceremonial fire for Mother Earth."

Kerry wondered: "I've always put it in the toilet am I not supposed to do that?" and after googling the answer she gasped: "No you can't! Oh my god." Reading on she said: "Tampons can cause plumbing blockages that can lead to sewage backflow." And she told listeners: "Wrap your tampons up and put them in the bin."

It was news to Kerry (BBC Sounds and Kerry Katona/Instagram)

Mother-of-five Kerry shared a video clip of the discussion on her Instagram and said: "42 years of age and I’m still learning something new everyday." The clip was met with amazement from followers, while others said it was also news to them.

kezzer1980 told her: "lm like u Kerry always put mine down the bog!!!" leahana1983 echoed: "I’ve always flushed mine down the loo." And adele0o0o said: "I always flush them maybe I will stop now."

nattttcho defended: "@kerrykatona7 must be something about 42 year olds, I never knew this either. So for everyone slating you, maybe they should be grateful you’ve now educated a few more people. I am almost certain in school we were told you could flush the tampon but not the applicator."

And tbomb33 wrote: "They used to be flushable when they were made of cotton, now they’re made from plastic fibre they’re no longer flushable because of the micro plastics in them polluting the sea."

But fibcox asked: "How does anyone not know you don’t put them down the loo?" epaggea wrote: How is it possible any woman in the UK not knowing this? There are instructions not to do this in every single public bathroom I have ever used." And sianybleewog also asked: "How can she not know that?"

While katieemmareeves urged: "They end up on the beach! Go for period panties most sustainable option!" And yomofish said: "MOON CUPS ALL THE WAY."
