Us Bristolians love a visit to Ikea, especially when it comes to kitting out our homes, student accommodation and renovated spaces with some quick and easy - and kind to the bank balance - furniture and accessories. But did you know that, in some cases, you can order spare parts from the retail giant?
It's perfect for giving you that peace of mind, or for when you have a bit of an accident when putting your flat-pack furniture together, or just living with it in your home in general. Think spare feet for chairs, nails and screws for shelves and other fixtures and fittings that could be easily misplaced when you first open your new bit of homeware.
Of course, it all depends on stock levels and in some case how long ago you purchased your piece of furniture, as sometimes products - and all its spare pieces - can be discontinued after time. But, as Ikea says, repairing furniture you already own is far better for the environment (and your wallet) than replacing it.

Ordering small spare parts - free
You can order smaller spare parts, like screws, plugs and knobs using Ikea's self-service at no cost. The spare parts will even be delivered directly to your home within three to five business days.
To order, you simply head to the Small Spare Parts section of the website and you enter the spare part number in the search box. To find your spare part number, simply look at the product's assembly instructions that came with your furniture, or online on the product page.
You can follow these easy steps:
- On the Ikea homepage, search for the product first
- In the product page, find the 'Product details' section
In the sidebar, find and open the 'Assembly & Documents' section. There you will find the assembly document, which contains the spare part number
Then go back to the Small Spare Parts page and add in the spare part number for your product in the search box
You can find and order things like screws, cam locks, dowels and more for products in the BILLY, HEMNES, POÄNG and MALM ranges, to name a few. For example, wooden dowels for the BILLY bookcase are pictured in the assembly instructions, with the number 101351 next to them - this is the spare part number.
Once you've found your spare part, click it and select how many you need, then click the black circle with the white plus symbol to add it to your shopping basket. You can either finish your shopping there, or search for more spare parts in the search bar.
When you go to order, you will fill out a form with your name and address and will also provide a reason for your order. The reasons you can choose from include renewing or adapting an existing Ikea product, fixing a broken part, or replacing a missing part - all that's left to do then is click 'order'.
Ordering big spare parts
When it comes to ordering bigger spare parts, Ikea has many available (while stocks last). However, you will need to ask about them during your visit to your local store, or by contacting the customer service centre.
These spare parts are only available when your items are still under warranty.
