Weather alerts for thunderstorms have been lifted after parts of Wales and the UK were battered by rain, hail, and lightning on Monday. Torrential rain temporarily halted the Manchester City trophy parade, which celebrated the club winning the treble, on Monday and there were thousands of lightning strikes recorded across Wales.
Met Office forecaster and meteorologist Simon Partridge said the worst of the thunderstorms had now passed and drier weather was expected going into the latter parts of the week. He said: "We've got high pressure starting to rebuild over the course of the day and when you get high pressure that's what gives us lots of dry, settled weather like what we've had over the last couple of weeks. That's becoming more established on Tuesday and through the week so we will see a lot of the country be dry with sunny spells.
"The thunderstorms have gradually been working their way westwards over the last couple of days because the area of the warmest and most humid air has drifted its way westwards. As a result... we're expecting to see thunderstorms across parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
"A few heavy rain spells are possible and could see some heavy downpours so there is the potential to see 20mm-plus of rain over a couple of hours. So not as much as we've seen over the last couple of days but certainly enough that anyone travelling will have to be aware."
Tuesday is expected to be another hot day across the UK with highs of 28°C in Wales. The Met Office weather maps for Cardiff are showing temperatures of 26°C by 1pm, 27°C by 3pm, and 28°C by 5pm. It is still expected to be 25°C at 9pm.
In Swansea it will be 27°C by 4pm and around 22°C at 9pm. In Aberystwyth, there will be highs of 27°C around 4pm.
Here is the weather map for Wales on Tuesday:
The Met Office forecast for Wales on Tuesday says that any cloud will left to leave a mostly dry day with plenty of sunshine. The forecast for Tuesday during the day says: "A murky start for many with low cloud lingering around western coasts. Elsewhere cloud breaking and lifting through the morning leaving a dry day with warm sunshine. A small chance of a shower later. Maximum temperature 27°C."
For Tuesday night it says: "Any showers soon fading with mostly clear skies developing across the region, perhaps with a few isolated mist patches forming here and there by dawn. Another warm and humid night. Minimum temperature 15°C."
The outlook for Wales to Saturday is showing "mostly settled" weather with long periods of warm sunshine. BBC Wales weather forecaster Sue Charles said it will feel less humid on Wednesday.
