Temperatures are set to reach a high of 36C over the next few days as Greater Manchester braces itself for an unprecedented heatwave. The mercury is set to soar to the mid to late 30s in Greater Manchester and even to 40C in the south of England.
Forecasters are predicting that temperatures may break the current record of 38.7C. The Met Office has issued a red warning for extreme heat on Monday and Tuesday, with an amber warning in place for tomorrow.
The red alert, the first ever issued, includes a 'danger to life' warning, with a risk of power cuts and disruption to water supply or mobile phone networks. It also states there could be an 'increased risk of water safety incidents' with people heading to water to stay cool.

The forecast for Greater Manchester shows temperatures are set to reach around 30C tomorrow, before rising to around 36C in some areas on Tuesday. The heat is set to ease to around 20C for the rest of the week.
