Star Latvian big man Kristaps Porzingis, once known as the Unicorn for the unusual mobility and skill he has for a center, made his debut for the Boston Celtics in a tilt at Madison Square Garden vs. the New York Knicks — the team that drafted him fourth overall, ironically.
His performance for the Celtics was remarkable, setting league and team records in the process of helping Boston get the win against New York. His journey from the Knicks to the Washington Wizards had some ups and downs due to injury and fit issues, but he’s now with the Celtics, and his presence is crucial for the team’s success this season in a campaign the ball club expects to be contending.
The Celtics boast a formidable perimeter defense with players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White. When combined with Porzingis’ consistent rim protection, this team has the potential to establish one of the best defenses in recent memory.
The hosts of “The Athletic NBA Show” recently raved about the addition of Porzingis to the Celtics; check it out in the clip embedded above.
