How Fabio Paratici has saved Tottenham up to £21m with four major deadline day decisions

Tottenham Hotspur director of football Fabio Paratici was an extremely busy man on deadline day this January.

The Italian managed to seal the arrivals of both Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus, whilst also facilitating the exit of four of Antonio Conte ’s current squad.

Dele Alli was surprisingly allowed to leave north London and join Premier League rivals Everton on a permanent deal.

Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil also departed Spurs by sealing loan switches to Spain - Villarreal and Valencia, respectively, securing their services.

Finally, club record signing Tanguy Ndombele was also allowed to leave as he rejoined former club Lyon on loan until the end of the campaign.

With the business now done amid the closure of the transfer window, Paratici will reflect on a job well done having saved a considerable amount - up to £21.3m to be exact - in wages for the remainder of the campaign.

It was actually Englishman Dele Alli who saved Tottenham the most amount of money with his departure.

According to Spotrac, the former Milton Keynes Dons playmaker was receiving an annual salary of £5.2m for every year of his contract, with that deal set to run until the summer of 2024.

However, with Everton now having made a move for his services, it now means that Spurs are under no obligation to pay the £13m that he would have been owed.

Spurs have also managed to potentially save £5.2m by allowing Ndombele to join Lyon. Of course, this depends on what percentage of the midfielder’s wages that the French club have agreed to pay, but any contribution would certainly be useful for Spurs.

Whilst Lo Celso is not paid anywhere near as much as his midfield colleagues - just £3.64m annually - that still represents a potential saving of just over £1.5m for Spurs, depending on how much Villarreal are prepared to pay.

Having been followed to Spain by Bryan Gil, the north London club are saving even more. The young Spaniard is reported to earn just £2.2m per season having only arrived from Sevilla last summer but this still means that Paratici has managed to knock-off just over £1m from the club’s wage bill.
