How early should you arrive at Edinburgh Airport before flight during Easter holidays

Edinburgh Airport customers have been told to prepare for queues as we head toward the busy summer season.

There have been major delays reported around the UK, particularly Manchester Airport, where airlines such as Tui and British Airways are telling customers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight.

For those jetting off from Edinburgh Airport, the airport recommends that travellers arrive at least two hours before their flight to ensure they have time to check-in and get through security.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: "As is common in airports given the nature of them, queues are to be expected at certain times of the day and we did warn last week that passengers should be prepared for queues as we enter the busy summer season, but so far any queuing has been kept to a minimum and airport teams have managed the situation well."

If you're unsure about how long it could take to get through security, on Edinburgh Airport's website, there is a security queue time checker. At the time of writing, you will only be waiting around six minutes.

Airlines allow you to check in online and if you need to check in your luggage, make sure you leave enough time to do so and get to your gate in time.

You can see where to park at Edinburgh Airport here.

Ryanair says: "The Bag Drop desks close strictly 40 minutes before the scheduled time of departure. If you miss this deadline your booking could be cancelled without refund and you could be prevented from boarding the plane.

"It’s important that you make it to your boarding gate in good time, at least 30 minutes before your flight departure time.

"Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure. Please have your valid travel document and boarding pass ready at the boarding gate."

For British Airways, check in time at Edinburgh Airport closes 45 minutes before the flight takes off.

There are also kiosks and self service bag drops for some airlines such as British Airways and easyJet.

Edinburgh Airport has also encouraged customers to check entry requirements and ensure they have all the correct documentation - including a valid passport - for the country they are flying to.

Travel information can be found on Gov.uk, while Edinburgh Live also report on any updates regarding travel rules abroad.

Travellers must also be aware that their passport is only valid for ten years, if there are added months, they are no longer valid in Europe.
