TikTok is a rapidly growing platform, with more and more features being added to make it the go-to app for all your needs, with millions of monthly users.
TikTok shop was announced by the app in August 2021 as a way to make in-app purchases and speed up product discovery. This allows for businesses who have an account on TikTok to create a shop page, allowing followers and other users to explore and purchase their products without leaving the app.
Big businesses also sell products on TikTok shop, with brands like Guess, Too Faced, and Elf available to purchase from, sometimes with discounts available only on TikTok. Creators and influencers can tag products and items used in their videos so their followers can pick-up the exact same items for themselves.

As the service becomes more and more popular, here's everything you need to know about it:
How do you use TikTok shop?
If a video appears on your page with items tagged in it, and you're over 18, you'll be able to click the link just above their username to see the product and choose a size or colour as you normally would, then add it to your basket. Creators can tag more than one product per video, so if you click the link a menu will appear with all the tagged products.
You can also head straight to the source, and find a brand you want to buy from on TikTok. Provided they have a business account and have added their shop page, you can head straight to their TikTok shop once on their account by tapping the icon in the middle of the page, resembling a shopping bag.
Either way, once items are added to your cart you can click the cart icon and review them all, and make your purchase after adding card details and contact detail as usual. Once you've made a purchase, you can view your order on your account page on TikTok by clicking the link under your bio.
You can see which have been shipped, which are being prepared, and when they've arrived and are ready to review.
Is it legitimate?
It is fairly easy to set up a business account on TikTok and make a shop, so there is a chance that illegitimate sellers could look to the platform to scam users, particularly due to TikTok's young audience. However, it is safe to say that brands you recognise would have a trustworthy shop on TikTok shop.
It is worth checking the seller's account to assess if it looks legitimate before purchasing.

Is it safe?
Only users over the age of 18 will be able to see a link if a creator they follow tags an item in their videos on TikTok shop. This is to stop young people from making uncontrolled purchases on the site.
