In recent games between the Boston Celtics and the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers, Celtics guard Jrue Holiday showed off his defensive skills by successfully defending prominent big men such as Karl-Anthony Towns and Joel Embiid.
Despite being significantly smaller in stature than either of those star centers, Holiday’s quickness and low center of gravity allowed him to effectively guard these taller opponents. His ability to stay in front of them and prevent them from driving to the basket was particularly impressive. The UCLA alum’s defensive prowess not only limited their scoring opportunities but also drew multiple offensive fouls from Towns, ultimately leading to his fouling out of the game.
The hosts of the “Thinking Basketball” podcast took a closer look at this dynamic on a recent episode.
