How do you like them apples, Goldman Sachs tells staff

Such is the strain of cost-of-living pressures, even millionaire bankers at Goldman Sachs are feeling the pinch.

Last month, career site eFinancial crowed that staff had been awarded “a new perk” in the office: a fruit and veg stall with apples costing 50p or three for £1.20.

Aside from the fact that it would be cheaper to go to Tesco, the article neglected to mention that the new scheme replaces the previous one—which was free.

GS staffers say they’re upset at the move. Some would be pretty keen to throw tomatoes at the boss—if they didn’t have to pay for the privilege. Certainly, the small-time budgetary squeeze does not bode well for this year’s bonus pool. There may be more sour grapes to come.
