How do Love Islanders pay their bills while on the show?

Love Island season is officially here and many of us are tuning into ITV2 at 9pm every night to catch the latest from the villa. The popular dating show is in its eighth series and sees a group of singletons spend a summer in Majorca trying to find love and win £50,000 in the process.

Among those taking part this year is Swansea paramedic Paige Thorne, international dressage rider Gemma Owen, who is the daughter of football legend Michael Owen, and student Liam Llewellyn from Newport, who quit after the first week. You can read more on his decision to leave, here.

However, as more bombshells arrive — you can read more on the two newest contestants here — love triangles form and recouplings continue, many viewers at home have been left wondering what goes on behind the scenes. Luckily, a former contestant has been offering a glimpse by answering fan questions on TikTok.

Amy Hart, who was a contestant on the 2019 show, shared a rare detail with her social media followers. The reality star has opened up on how Islanders pay their rent and bills at home while on the show.

The former Islander answered a question that read: "What happens to your job whilst your in the villa. Are you told to quit your job or tell them the truth? Also who pays bills.. phone bill and rent?"

While Amy revealed she had to leave her job, she said of bills: "And then pays bills... Phone bill and rent, you get like a little subsistence while you're in there. I think it's £500 for the first week and then £250 for every week after that I think. Just to pay your bills.

"I was quite lucky as I lived at home at the time so it wasn't an issue, but for people that it was an issue – that is what happened." Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
