How did Marilyn Monroe die and did she have children? New Netflix documentary looks at her final weeks

The new Marilyn Monroe documentary, The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes, is now available to watch on Netflix . It was released on Wednesday (April 27).

The documentary investigates the movie star's life and, more specifically, her death - and the circumstances around it. The new show airs tapes of Marilyn Monroe that have never been released to the public.

Marilyn Monroe was hugely popular during her life. But her unexpected death also captivated the public and many conspiracies have speculated about it over the years.

How did Marilyn Monroe die?

Monroe’s birth name was Norma Jeane Mortenson. She was born in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926. She died from a barbiturate overdose.

Marilyn was just 36 when she died in the late evening of Saturday, August 4, 1962. She was found in her bed at her 12305 Fifth Helena Drive home in Los Angeles, California before dawn on Sunday, August 5.

Marilyn’s death was treated as a probable suicide by the Los Angeles police. It was her housekeeper, Eunice Murray, who had discovered her body in the early hours of the morning.

The housekeeper was staying overnight as Marilyn’s psychiatrist had asked her to as he was concerned about her safety. Eunice found Marilyn’s body naked, face down on her bed.

The psychiatrist who treated Marilyn, Dr Greenson, arrived at the home after Eunice phoned him and broke a window to enter the home. He claims he found her clutching onto a phone in her right hand.

Did Marilyn Monroe have children?

Marilyn Monroe did not have any children. However, tragically, it is reported that the star had two or three miscarriages while she was alive.
