Right before their Week 14 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Cleveland Browns and safety Grant Delpit agreed to a new contract extension. The deal is for three additional years, worth $12 million per year. Delpit gets $23 million guaranteed in this new contract, meaning he will be around for at least the next two seasons.
Starting his NFL career off with a devastating achilles rupture that ended his rookie season before it started, Delpit has blossomed into one of the best strong safeties in the NFL who can play in the box, in the slot, and overtop of the defense. He currently sits sixth in Pro Bowl voting at the position as a result.
Delpit then went out and recorded a sack and three tackles that resulted in a loss for the Jaguars. He has solidified himself as part of the defensive culture in Cleveland and will hang around for a little while longer.
Here is how social media responded to the news of a new deal for the fourth-year safety.

Money isn’t unlimited, overpaying Delpit makes it harder to keep other players around such as JOK.
So yeah it has consequences 🙈
Mix that with the news the salary cap is over $10m down than expected in 2024 today… https://t.co/DGhdw38fLC

Thrilled for Grant Delpit. He battled back from a rookie season achilles rupture that about 26% of NFL players never make it back from, per a study from 2017.
Improved with every season since & is playing terrific ball. Greatly deserved extension. https://t.co/V3FvUh8EAm

And to think it all began with the Browns trading down with the Colts for Jonathan Taylor. A move that has worked out well for both teams*!

Good for Delpit. He’s grown tremendously as a player over the last couple of years. He’ll be patrolling #Browns secondary going forward. https://t.co/OCqWOkUieN

Love it!! Grant has shown he can play at a high level, this is his first year in this system and a few weeks early in the year he was one of the top rated safeties in the league.. our Secondary will remain intact next season, that’s huge.. a couple pieces and this defense will be https://t.co/IFyKSwVpUL

After tearing his achilles tendon as a rookie, Grant Delpit faced significant rehab before he ever got to take an NFL snap.
He could've quit.
He could've fallen short.Instead, Delpit became a staple in one of the best secondaries in football.

I have followed Delpit since college and don’t think I’ve loved a player this much ever. Genuinely remember the excitement I felt when we got him. His jersey is one of my favourites. One day I’ll hopefully get over and meet him 🤞🏽. Proud to be a Delpit fan 🧡#DawgPound pic.twitter.com/wImY7zmei4

Delpit has allowed 11 completions on 15 targets this season according to SIS. According to PFF he’s one of the best coverage safeties in the NFL. Not sure where you’re getting your coverage stats but they do not match reality. https://t.co/0Z8RfYPiQ9 pic.twitter.com/JX0PUIP9Oo
