How Dean Henderson can still play for Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United in Carabao Cup

Dean Henderson must seek special permission to face parent club Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The on-loan Forest goalkeeper was in inspired form to help Steve Cooper's side book their spot in the last four, denying both Ruben Neves and Joseph Hodge on penalties. The game had finished 1-1 with Raul Jimenez cancelling out Willy Boly's opener.

Having been denied the opportunity to face United in Forest's 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford earlier this season, it seems highly unlikely that the Reds will give the 25-year-old consent to face them later this month.

According to EFL rules, Henderson must now seek consent from his current employer, with Wayne Hennessey likely to be called into action in his place.

Section 6.3 via the Carabao Cup website states: ''Players registered on a temporary basis will not be eligible to play unless the Club holding his full registration gives its written consent (also subject to any restrictions on the number of loan players prescribed by applicable Premier League Rules or League Regulations).''

Henderson has kept just five clean sheets so far with the Tricky Trees, following his loan switch earlier this year. Having also conceded 31 goals, he has made 19 appearances but seemingly remains to be Cooper's go-to man in between the sticks this season.
