How Crystal Palace can pull off Donny van de Beek Manchester United deal this January

Crystal Palace have submitted a straight loan proposal with Manchester United for midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The Dutchman is also reportedly wanted by La Liga side Valencia but will make his decision in the coming days, with Eagles boss Patrick Vieira said to be pushing hard for the deal.

Currently, van de Beek has played just 69 minutes of Premier League football for the Red Devils this season and has a total of 14 appearances for them across all competitions.

He joined the club in August 2020 from Ajax for an initial fee of £35million and scored on his debut as a substitute against Palace a month later.

Any deal that sees van de Beek leave Old Trafford will have no option to buy proposal included as United want him in their squad for next season when they appoint a new manager.

Current interim Ralf Rangnick is said to want to keep van de Beek at the club but is facing opposition from United's directors who would rather loan him out, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Eagles have been hoping to add players to their squad this January, though so far Patrick Vieira has not been able to bring anyone through the door at Selhurst Park.

"We will try to improve the squad, this is a difficult period to find the right players," he said in a press conference last week.

A deal for van de Beek would mean he takes up Palace's second domestic loan slot alongside Conor Gallagher, currently on loan from Chelsea.

The Eagles also have French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta one year into an 18-month loan deal from German outfit Mainz.

Mateta was initially not thought to have a future in SE25 past the expiry of his loan deal but an upturn in form of late has seen that change.

There is now talk of the forward signing a permanent deal in south London, though it is unclear whether Palace will wait until the end of the season before considering this.
