How Colts DE Tyquan Lewis can earn a pair of contract incentives in Week 18

Indianapolis Colts’ defensive end Tyquan Lewis will be on the search for 1.5 sacks in Sunday’s Week 18 finale against Jacksonville to hit a performance bonus in his contract.

According to Spotrac, baked into Lewis’ contract are sack incentives. If he hits 3.0 sacks on the season, he earns a $100,000 bonus. If he were to reach 5.0 sacks, his bonus is $250,000 and at 7.0 sacks on the year, Lewis would earn $400,000.

Lewis will enter Sunday’s game with 1.5 sacks on the season. So while the latter two bonuses are likely out of reach, a 1.5 sack performance against Jacksonville is attainable.

Lewis returned from injured reserve in Week 12 against Detroit after being sidelined since Week 4 with an elbow injury.

In addition to the 1.5 sacks he’s accumulated this season, Lewis also has 16 pressures, according to PFF, and he’s been fairly effective against the run, ranking 19th out of all defensive ends in run-stop rate this season.

Prior to his injury, Lewis was starting opposite of Kwity Paye, but up until this most recent game, he had been the fourth member of the defensive end rotation in terms of snaps. Against the Giants, he was third on the team in playing time at defensive end, one snap ahead of Laiatu Latu.

Lewis will be up against a Jaguars’ offensive line that has surrendered the lowest pressure rate this season, per Pro Football Reference, and the seventh-fewest sacks, with quarterback Mac Jones getting the ball out of his hands relatively quickly.

Lewis can also earn another $100,000 by playing 30% of the Colts’ defensive snaps this season. He’s currently at 29.99%.

The Colts signed Lewis to a two-year, $12 million deal this past offseason.
