How close is Lamar Jackson to breaking the single season passer rating record?

Lamar Jackson is having, by far, the best statistical season of his career. While he has two NFL MVP awards to his credit, this year has been, any statistical measure, superior to either of those two campaigns.

Jackson is also breaking all his records and rewriting the Ravens’ record book for quarterbacks. Regarding the league record book, Lamar is rapidly moving up several different charts, as he is on the verge of breaking a couple of primary NFL QB records relatively soon.

He also enters the Saturday Steelers showdown #2 in the league (behind only Josh Allen) in QBR.

In passer rating, he’s number one at 120.7, more than 10 points better than the next closest competitor, Detroit’s Jared Goff, 110.4. According to Football Reference, Lamar’s current season passer rating would be the fourth highest in NFL history if it ended exactly where it is now.

Only Peyton Manning’s 2004 (121.1) and Aaron Rodgers’s 2020 (121.5) and 2011 (122.5) performances were better.

And you know what that means: the top spot is within striking distance over these final three games. Jackson’s career-high passer rating for a completed season came in 2019 when he won his first MVP award.

His 113.3 that campaign is good for the 13th highest in league history.
