How Christian Pulisic can still complete Chelsea exit despite transfer window closing

Christian Pulisic's future at Chelsea is in severe doubt after Todd Boehly continued his overhaul of the playing squad at Stamford Bridge over the January transfer window.

The Blues welcomed eight new faces to Graham Potter's squad throughout the winter transfer window with Enzo Fernandez becoming the club's and Premier League's record signing on deadline day for a fee in excess of £106million ($128.7million). The World Cup winner followed the prior signings of Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix (loan), Malo Gusto, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana.

Mudryk and Madueke's arrivals mean Potter now has multiple options to fill in his attacking ranks after seeing the goals dry up since his appointment from Brighton & Hove Albion. However, with nearly £300million ($370million) spent in January, the futures of a number of Chelsea players are now in doubt.

Hakim Ziyech's loan switch to French giants PSG collapsed at the final minute due to Chelsea's failure to send the correct documentation whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's signing in the summer now looks to be a poor piece of business.

However, one player who has faced uncertainty over his future in west London is USMNT star Pulisic. The 24-year-old has made 136 appearances for Blues since his £58million ($73m) move from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

This season, Pulisic has only started six league games, scoring once, and has missed the previous three games after sustaining a knee injury in the 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City last month. Despite his absence off the field, the attacker has been linked with a late January exit.

Speaking towards the end of last year, Pulisic reiterated his desire to stay at Chelsea but conceded that anything could happen. "Right now I'm absolutely back at Chelsea," he told the Indirect Podcast. "Focused and ready to finish the season.

"But you know how things work in football. Things change quickly and anything can happen. At the moment, I am just pushing myself in training and working at Chelsea because that's where I am right now."

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Galatasaray want to acquire the American's services before the end of their January transfer window, which closes on Wednesday February 8. The move comes after the Guardian claimed that Chelsea will listen to offers for Pulisic, alongside Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic and Aubameyang in the summer.

The report claims that Okan Buruk's side are keen to strengthen out wide and have placed Pulisic on their list alongside Roma's Nicola Zaniolo. A possible loan move until the end of the season is reportedly a possible move by Chelsea due to their depth in attack, but his wages could prove to be an issue.

Despite England's January transfer window closing on Tuesday night, Pulisic is still able to leave the club due to Turkey's window closing eight days later. Their deadline isn't until next Wednesday so there could be some further business conducted.
