How Chelsea's transfer interest in Raheem Sterling could impact Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus plan

Raheem Sterling is ready to leave Manchester City this summer, with Chelsea among the clubs battling for his signature. That is according to the Telegraph, who report a number of top European sides are also keeping tabs on the former Liverpool star's situation.

The report adds that an exit from the Etihad Stadium is increasingly likely, with the England international having one-year remaining on his contract. However, Chelsea are not the only side interested, as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring the situation closely.

The interest from the Blues comes ahead of a huge summer for Thomas Tuchel and his squad, with the futures of Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner all in doubt as new owner Todd Boehly plans a major rebuild at Stamford Bridge. Gabriel Jesus is just one of the players linked with a move to the Blues, although the Brazilian is also high up on the list of Arsenal's transfer priorities this summer.

Following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's departure to Barcelona in January and Alexandre Lacazette's exit to Lyon upon the expiry of his contract, the Gunners are in desperate need of a striker, so the interest in Jesus makes sense. football.london understands that Edu has been in talks with the 25-year-old's agent since November over a potential move, and given his versatility and high pressing capabilities, Mikel Arteta views him as the ideal candidate to take up the number nine shirt at the Emirates Stadium.

But it remains to be seen if Manchester City will allow two first team players to leave in the same window. So, following the news that Sterling is now considering his future at the Premier League champions, Pep Guardiola and the City hierarchy face a tough decision in the coming weeks.

If Sterling does end up making the move to London, Arsenal could get a free run at Jesus - but only if City are tempted to cash in on both players. Considering the pair both have one-year remaining on their current deals, and are seemingly itching for a move away in search of more playing time, that may not be that unlikely.
