'How can I not be?' Jurgen Klopp concerned about Liverpool form as Newcastle lie in wait

Jurgen Klopp admits he's worried about Liverpool's dismal run of form following their 3-0 defeat to Wolves. The Reds have won just once in their last five games and are currently in tenth place, having spent last season competing on four fronts.

The Liverpool boss says last year's endeavours are part of the reason behind their poor first-half of the season. Nonetheless, the German is refusing to use that as an excuse for their current predicament.

The Reds are the only team to beat Newcastle in the Premier League this season, a late win over the Magpies at St. James' Park. However, there may not be a better time to face Klopp's side with a trip to St. James' Park on the horizon.

Eddie Howe's side will be out for revenge when they take on Liverpool in a fortnights time. The Toon will be without talisman Bruno Guimaraes following his sending off against Southampton ion the second leg of the Carabao Cup.

When asked if he was concerned about Liverpool's poor run of form, Klopp told the Liverpool Echo: "The question, unfortunately, has been asked too often. How can I not be concerned?

"I cannot sit here and say it’s all OK and we did well. It’s not. I was asked outside if it’s because of last season, 63 games.

"Yes, of course, it’s clear that [last season] has influenced the first part of the season, but how long do we want to suffer from that? It’s February now. We had a full week to prepare, we have another eight or nine days to prepare the next one.

"We are fit, we are there now, injuries yes, but today, the first 12 minutes is not allowed, and we did it anyway. This is not a 3-0 how a 3-0 usually looks. Wolves were a clear better side for 12 minutes, and maybe the last 10 when they were 3-0 up and the ball was their friend again.

"But in between, we were really in the game and especially in the second half we put them under real pressure, against a team full of confidence with momentum. But we didn’t finish the situations off, which is not helpful."
