The midfielder turns out for Portugal's under-21s and has captained the side on several occasions.
He has registered 68 caps across various youth levels for his country, scoring 16 goals along the way.

Bernardo has skippered his nation previously and will look to bring what he's learned from McGregor to this summer's under-21 European Championships in Slovakia.
Portugal are in Group C alongside France, Georgia and Poland.
"I am the vice-captain, but I have led the team in some recent games," said Bernardo (Record).
"As a captain, I try to lead by example. I say positive things to my teammates. But if they are not doing well, if they are not doing things for the team, I’ll say to them too.
"I try to lead by example and try to help them.
"For sure, I have learned from the guys here. Callum is a great leader. He’s the perfect captain for every team.
"When he has to say something, he says it. When he wants to show something, he shows how to do it on the pitch.
"Callum doesn’t need to scream at people. We know the message he wants to pass on. It’s nice to have him on the team and to learn with him."
Bernardo returned from injury for Celtic at the weekend as they defeated Heart of Midlothian by three goals to nil.
The 23-year-old replaced McGregor for the final half-hour of the victory after seven weeks on the sidelines.
