How Ben White reacted to Fabio Vieira's 'lucky' first Arsenal goal after £34m summer transfer

Fabio Vieira is up and running for Arsenal. The £34million summer signing marked his full Premier League debut with his first goal for the club in their 3-0 win over Brentford.

Whilst the Portugal U21 international has received plenty of plaudits for his stunning strike, in many ways the goal owed a lot to the composure of William Saliba as he started the attack by dribbling out of a tight situation after being closed down by Ivan Toney before swapping passes with Thomas Partey and then laying the ball off to the 22-year-old.

Two passes and a wonderful curling effort later saw Vieira open his account in an Arsenal shirt in some style as he made sure the points were heading back to north London as he added to first-half headers from Saliba and Gabriel Jesus.

Interestingly when discussing his goal during a live TV interview, he had to be corrected by teammate Gabriel Martinelli after describing the strike as "lucky": "No, don't say that... he's been practicing that shot every single day, so it's not luck," the Brazil international said, as per the Mirror.

Perhaps Vieira felt the nature of the goal was lucky rather than the strike itself as he had a delayed reaction upon seeing the ball fly past David Raya and then striking the inside of the post before hitting the back of the net.

Upon closer look at the goal, Martinelli and Bukayo Saka immediately turn to start celebrating, Granit Xhaka starts running over to the midfielder whilst Kieran Tierney has his hands in the air all before Vieira realises that he just scored his first Arsenal goal as he then proceeds to take the moment in with his teammates and the travelling supporters.

In addition, Ben White had a rather interesting reaction as he acknowledged the spectacular strike with a familiar arm gesture before joining the celebration huddle and strongly patting Vieira on the head.

With that said, Vieira was understandably delighted to have opened his account for the Gunners: "I'm really happy of course to score my first goal with this club," he added. "We’ve started this season really well and we need to keep doing this. Everybody plays, everybody knows what they have to do on the pitch and we need to keep doing this."

The result takes Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table going into the first international break of the season and they return to action at the beginning of the next month with a highly anticipated North London Derby meeting with third-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
