How Arsenal stars are helping local businesses thrive in north London

Fans walking past the Chip Inn on Holloway Road on their way to Emirates Stadium for Arsenal’s game against Wolves last Thursday could not have missed the huge queue outside.

The takeaway is a popular spot when the Gunners are at home, but business was booming like never before thanks to the Arsenal Supporting Supporters initiative.

The campaign has involved Arsenal players linking up with local businesses to promote them and raise awareness.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale joined forces with the Chip Inn, starring in an advert for the takeaway that went viral.

It was the latest success story of the initiative, which has also seen Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Rob Holding test out their acting skills to promote local firms.

Given the pandemic had kept fans away from Emirates Stadium for well over a year, Arsenal wanted to give those reliant on supporters’ trade a helping hand, which led to Arsenal Supporting Supporters.

“Aaron seemed to love being part of it,” said Chip Inn owner Murat Gokmen. “Hopefully, more people will get to hear about us now — the guys are even helping set up social media accounts for us.”
