How are the 12 Team Europe Ryder Cuppers faring at the BMW PGA Championship?

Earlier this month, U.S. captain Zach Johnson locked in his 12-player roster for the upcoming 2023 Ryder Cup, and European captain Luke Donald followed by doing the same.

After the conclusion of the 2023 Omega European Masters the six automatic qualifiers – three from a world points list and three from a European points list – for Team Europe that are bound for Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy were confirmed. Donald then made his six captain’s picks, including a pair of surprise rookies.

As we’re counting down the days until the biennial event in Italy, one of the major subplots at this week’s BMW PGA Championship in Surrey, England, is how the Team Europe players are faring.

Euro team captain Luke Donald is also competing at Wentworth, as are five of his six vice captains. Vice captain Nicolas Colsaerts is doing the best out of this group, as he’s tied for 38th. Vice captains Thomas Bjorn, Francesco Molinari and Edoard Molinari all missed the cut. Jose Maria Olazabal isn’t playing.

Here’s where the 12 members stand after two days:

Tommy Fleetwood

Fleetwood (9 under) shot 69-66 and is tied for third.

Sepp Straka

At 8 under, Straka is tied for seventh after rounds of 70-66.

Tyrrell Hatton

Hatton (7 under) shot 68-69 and is tied alongside four others for 10th.

Matt Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick (6 under) opened with a 66, followed that with an even-par 72. He’s tied for 16th.

Jon Rahm

Rahm (6 under) followed his opening-round 71 with a 67. He was 3 over through three holes thanks to a double bogey-par-bogey start but made eagle on the fourth and bagged six birdies over his last 10 holes. He’s also T-16.

Viktor Hovland

Hovland shot 69-70 and is tied for 25th.

Shane Lowry

Lowry posted scores of 69-71 and tied for 31st.

Robert MacIntyre

MacIntyre shot 3-under 69 Friday after opening with a 72. He’s tied for 39th.

Justin Rose

Rose made the cut by a shot after scores of 72 and 71.

Nicolai Hojgaard

Hojgaard, who shot 67 a day after posting a 76. He also made the cut on the number.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy was on the wrong side of the cutline the entire day until a two-putt birdie on the last to get him to 1 under on the week and through to the weekend.
