How Anthony Martial spent his birthday at Manchester United training camp

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial was hard at work in training on Monday as the forward celebrated his 27th birthday in Spain.

Martial was omitted from the France squad for the World Cup in Qatar, despite fellow striker Karim Benzema being ruled out of the tournament with an injury. Manager Didier Deschamps opted against replacing the Real Madrid frontman in his squad and went ahead with a 25-man group instead.

As a result, the former Monaco man has travelled with the United squad to Spain for their warm-weather training camp. Erik ten Hag's side flew to Cadiz on Saturday ahead of two friendlies against LaLiga sides Cadiz on Wednesday and Real Betis on Saturday to prepare for the resumption of the domestic campaign.

Martial was in good spirits as he trained alongside his teammates on his birthday, with the striker looking sharp as he continues to recover from a back injury that has seen him miss six matches already this term.

Reds goalkeeper Tom Heaton wished the player a happy birthday in a video shared on social media by the club's in-house media team - and Martial thanked his teammates and supporters for the messages.

Despite making just seven appearances in all competitions so far this season, the 27-year-old has still registered four goals and two assists for Ten Hag's side. He was on target in the 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup victory on the eve of the World Cup.

Unlike Martial, fellow attacker Jadon Sancho has not travelled to Spain as United confirmed that the Englishman was "continuing his individual training programme as part of a process to get back to his highest level".

Sancho, who has not featured since the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on October 22, travelled to the Netherlands to train under coaches recommended by United boss Ten Hag.
