How and where to stream the Super Mario Bros. movie from home

The Super Mario Bros. movie is streaming now, so even while the theatrical version continues to rake in record-breaking profits, you can watch Nintendo and Illumination’s first joint effort from the comfort of home. Not every streaming platform is hosting the movie, though, and as of the Super Mario Bros. movie’s digital release date, you can’t actually rent it yet. You’ll have to shell out and actually buy it.

U.K. viewers have to wait a little longer, though, and if you’re keen to pick up a physical copy for yourself, you’ll have to wait even longer. There’s currently no DVD and Blu-Ray release date for the film.

How to stream Super Mario Bros. movie in the US

If you’re in the United States, you can purchase the Super Mario Bros. movie digitally for $29.99 from

AppleTV has a placeholder for the movie, and it’s supposed to be available as of May 16, 2023. However, the film hasn’t joined the lineup yet. There’s no option to watch it, and even the “view on iTunes” link doesn’t work. It may roll out on May 19, 2023, instead, since most of Apple’s new additions launch on Fridays.

The Super Mario Bros. movie is meant to stream anywhere that hosts Universal films. Peacock TV has no placeholder for the movie yet, though as Universal’s own streaming platform, that will presumably change in the coming weeks.

How to stream Super Mario Bros. movie in the UK

UK viewers who aren’t using a VPN will also be able to stream the film on any platform that distributes Universal Studios movies, including:

  • Amazon’s Prime Video (no subscription required)
  • Google Play TV and Movies (supports 4K)
  • AppleTV

However, Nintendo and Illumination are apparently going all-in on the old video game nostalgia factor. Like the NES and SNES games of old, the Super Mario Bros. movie’s digital release date is a while after the U.S. date: July 9, 2023.
