Manchester City took a major step towards the Premier League title on Sunday afternoon, opening up a four-point gap between themselves and Arsenal with just two games for the Gunners to make the deficit up.
Pep Guardiola's side came away from their potential banana skin clash at Everton with three points, Erling Haaland's header sandwiched between an Ilkay Gundogan brace enough for a 3-0 win.
Arsenal hosted Brighton shortly after, falling to a crushing 3-0 defeat at the Emirates. It was a day in which everything went City's way, with the Blues closing in on a fifth Premier League title in six seasons, which could be confirmed next weekend.
RATINGS: Gundogan and Walker excellent in win vs Everton
After playing second this weekend, Mikel Arteta's side are up first when they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday. Steve Cooper's side are fighting for their lives at the bottom and have picked up four points in their last two games. Put simply, defeat for the Gunners would see the title remain at the Etihad for a third consecutive season.
Any result for the Gunners, however, would mean Guardiola's side would need to do their part to secure the title at the Etihad on Sunday, when they host Chelsea. In that case, all City need to do is equal or better Arsenal's result in Nottinghamshire.
Should Arsenal get a point on Saturday, the Blues can secure the title with a draw or a win at home to Chelsea. Three points for the Gunners would see City needing a win against the Blues to call themselves champions. Whatever happens in Pep Guardiola's side's game on Sunday, they need a maximum of three points from their last three matches to earn a fifth crown in six seasons.
Before attentions turn to a Premier League title, City have the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid to focus on. The Blues flew back from the Bernabeu with a 1-1 draw, coming from behind thanks to Kevin De Bruyne. And Guardiola will no doubt have his sights set on an illustrious treble, with an FA Cup final against Manchester United to look forward to in June.
