Jon Rahm recorded his best Major finish of the year to top the LIV Golf leaderboard at the 2024 Open Championship.
The Spaniard finished T45th in his Masters title defense before missing the cut at the PGA Championship and then withdrawing from the US Open due to injury.
Rahm began the final round six strokes back of the lead and briefly got within two after playing his first seven holes in four-under. He eventually signed for a three-under 68 to post his first top-10 in a Major since his big money move to LIV Golf in December.
The two-time Major winner rued his form on the par 5s at Royal Troon.
"The one thing I keep thinking about all week is the fact that I didn't birdie a single par-5, which I can't remember the last time I played good golf, possibly finished top 10, and not birdied a single par-5," he said.
"In fact, I played them 3-over par. That's where I think basically where the tournament might have been for me."
Rahm finished three ahead of the next-best LIV Golfer, John Catlin. The American, who has three DP World Tour wins and shot a 59 at the Macau Open earlier this year on the way to his sixth Asian Tour title, is currently playing as a stand-in on Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC side. It was his first ever made cut in a Major.
Catlin was one ahead of South African Dean Burmester, with those three the only LIV players in the top-20.
In total, 10 of the 17 LIV golfers at Royal Troon made the cut this week, with big names like Tyrrell Hatton, 2016 Troon winner Henrik Stenson, 150th Open winner Cameron Smith and US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau exiting early.
DeChambeau blamed "equipment related" issues for his troubles after an opening 76 and shifts his focus to LIV Golf UK earlier than expected after playing just two days at Troon.
