The Houston Texans have picked Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud No. 2 overall in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL draft.
The pick comes after the Carolina Panthers took Alabama quarterback Bryce Young to start off the draft.
General manager Nick Caserio told reporters April 17 the Texans were prepared to make their pick at No. 2 overall, regardless of position.
“Every team is going to do what they think is best, so our job is to understand the players, understand the board, try to make good decisions, and we pick where we pick,” Caserio said. “So if we pick at two, we pick at two. If we don’t pick at two and we pick somewhere else, then we just have to be prepared to pick accordingly. We can’t control what other teams do.”
Stroud is the first quarterback taken in Round 1 by the Texans since 2017.
