Houston Rockets Center Alperen Sengun Out With Grade 3 Injury

Houston Rockets

During a recent game against the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun suffered a significant injury that left fans and observers concerned. After contesting a fastbreak layup, Sengun fell to the ground clutching his knee in pain. He was subsequently wheeled off the court with a wheelchair, prompting fears of a serious injury.

However, the latest medical evaluation revealed that Sengun has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 right ankle sprain and a knee bone bruise. While this will sideline him for several weeks, the good news is that there is no major damage to his knee, sparing him from a more severe prognosis.

Despite the setback, Sengun is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of the next season. This news comes as a relief to the Rockets organization and fans, as the young center has been a key player in the team's recent success.

Head coach Ime Udoka has adjusted the team's lineup in Sengun's absence, opting to play smaller lineups with power forward Jabari Smith Jr. at center and rookie point guard Amen Thompson in the starting lineup. Thompson, known for his defensive skills, has been a bright spot in his rookie season.

Prior to his injury, Sengun had a breakout year, averaging impressive numbers of 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game over 63 appearances. His offensive prowess, combined with the Rockets' solid defense, had propelled the team to success in the league.

Looking ahead, the Rockets face decisions regarding Sengun's future with the team. While he is eligible for a contract extension this summer, the organization may opt to delay negotiations to retain financial flexibility. By allowing Sengun to enter restricted free agency, the Rockets can match any offers he receives, ensuring his continued presence in Houston.
