Thursday night presented some viewing options for football fans. While most of the football world watched a sloppy snoozer between the Chiefs and Broncos in between gratuitous shots of Taylor Swift, there was one whale of a college game going on. West Virginia and Houston squared off in a great battle that featured a fast-rising 2024 NFL draft prospect serving up another strong game.
Houston left tackle Patrick Paul continued his outstanding season in the Cougars’ last-second, 41-39 home win. The 6-foot-7 junior carried on his fantastic pass protection, not allowing a single pressure on Houston QB Donovan Smith.
That’s nothing new for Paul. Per Pro Football Focus, he hasn’t allowed a single QB pressure, hurry or sack through Houston’s first six games. While he did commit a penalty in this one, Paul has been darn near perfect so far. His length, power and quick feet are on a fantastic shutout streak.
Scouts wanted to see more consistency and intensity from Paul entering the season, and they’re getting everything they could want from big No. 76 in Houston. Expect to see more of Paul in the upper reaches of mock drafts in the coming weeks.
