Mayor John Whitmire emphasized the ongoing risks during a news conference on Monday afternoon, cautioning against complacency due to the clear skies. He highlighted the presence of dangerous conditions, including extensive flooding and high water levels across the city.

The impact of the storm was severe, with Houston experiencing strong winds and receiving between 10 to 15 inches of rainfall in certain areas. The aftermath has left traffic lights non-operational and forced the closure of several freeways, further complicating the situation for residents.

A 53-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman lost their lives when trees fell on their homes, underscoring the destructive impact of the storm.
