Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien will face a motion of no confidence next Wednesday.
People Before Profit announced their plan to table the motion at the Dail Business committee meeting this morning.
Sinn Fein is understood to be supportive of the motion.
It is expected that the Government will table a counter motion of confidence in the minister.
The motion has come just before an expected Cabinet reshuffle and the transfer of the Taoiseach's office from Micheal Martin to Leo Varadkar.
It comes as the number of people in homeless accommodation this year broke its own record.
It was announced yesterday that a protest will take place on December 17, the same day that the cabinet reshuffle will occur.
