Investments in South Lanarkshire housing will be decided by councillors today.
The proposal to invest £20m on new council housing was due to be decided at a meeting of the executive committee today (Wednesday).
Details of the investment were discussed at a special meeting of the housing and technical resources committee last month, with the proposals now being referred to the executive committee for final approval.
Chairman of the housing and technical resources committee, Councillor Josh Wilson, said the 2022/23 housing budget "strongly confirms" the council’s commitment to providing new, high-quality homes for residents while also ensuring our current homes are also maintained to high standards.”
Further funding of £10m on external fabric upgrading works, £4m on environmental improvements, over £2m on energy efficiency works and more than £6m on central heating improvements is also proposed.
A 2.2 per cent increase in council house rent was also agreed and will come into effect April 1 pending council approval tomorrow.
Executive director of housing and technical resources, Daniel Lowe, said: “Both the budget scrutiny group and tenant participation and coordination group understood the council’s position with regards the rent increase.
"They felt that 2.2 per cent provided good value for tenants while allowing continued investment, particularly in the current economic climate.
“They also concluded that the proposed increase of 2.2 per cent is fair and ensures that rents remain affordable for most tenants.”
The rent increase followed an in-depth consultation process with tenants who were in favour of the decision.
All decisions were to be finalised and recommended for approval at the executive committee meeting today.
