Housekeeper reveals why you should 'never use' hotel room kettle or coffee machine

A hotel worker is urging guests to avoid using the coffee machines provided in their rooms.

Hotel housekeeper Tara Bee claims that making your morning caffeine hit in your room is best avoided as it may be very unhygienic. Posting a clip on TikTok, the worker explained that the machines are actually the number one thing she avoids when staying in a hotel.

In the social media video she said: "The first thing that I would never ever use in a hotel room is the coffee pot or any of the glass wear. Usually the housekeeper just rinses these things out into the bathroom sink and dries them off with the same rag that they use to clean the rest of their room with."

According to the Mirror, the claim's have not only turned stomachs by making guests reflect back on times they have used their machines to brew their coffee, but has also unearthed an age old debate.

Throughout the years, many guests have suggested the machines are largely unhygienic, with others even revealing they have used the provided kettle to wash clothes, dunking knickers and socks in the boiled water.

One person recently took to Reddit to say: "By 'coffee makers' you really mean miniature underwear washing machines"

Whether or not the stomach churning myth is actually true, the thought it enough to put many off their morning tea or coffee in their hotel room.

Travel expert Caroline Newton recently wrote on Bon Appetit that the possibility that it may have happened is enough to stop her using the machines for good.

"Whether or not people really use coffee pots as personal washing machines, this legend is enough to keep me from using a hotel coffee pot again," she wrote.

"My plan: investing in travel-size dish detergent and giving the coffee pot (and mugs and glasses) a good rinse if I absolutely have to drink from the pot—or I’ll just grab coffee somewhere else."

Fellow hotel worker Evangeline recently explained in a viral video that she would never use the TV remote in a hotel before wiping it down with an anti-bacterial wipe. She added that she likes to make sure they are clean before flicking through the channels.

But the worker says the remote is not the dirtiest part in the room.

Evangeline added that she would never touch the bedspread often found lying on top of the end of the bed, insisting she throws it on the floor upon arrival instead.

She said that some hotel do not clean these regularly, leaving them for up to a year, meaning they may be the dirtiest part of the room.

The TikToker, @queenevangeline, ran through five things she would avoid in a hotel after working in them herself.

"I would never sit on the bedspread. I would never make myself comfortable on the bedspread. That thing comes off the first minute I walk into the hotel. Those things are not washed often:", she explained.
