The House Oversight Committee is currently investigating allegations against the Biden-Harris administration for purportedly using taxpayer-funded resources to transport Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to battleground Pennsylvania prior to the November presidential election. The committee, led by Chairman James Comer, has initiated inquiries by sending letters to the White House, the Pentagon, and the Justice Department, requesting documentation related to the alleged misuse of government resources.
Comer highlighted the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump in 2019 for abuse of power, citing the administration's attempt to involve a foreign leader, Zelenskyy, in the 2020 presidential campaign. Drawing parallels, Comer raised concerns about the Biden-Harris administration's actions in flying Zelenskyy to Pennsylvania, a crucial state for the upcoming 2024 election.
The committee aims to ascertain whether the administration sought to leverage a foreign leader to benefit Vice President Harris' presidential campaign, potentially constituting an abuse of power. Comer emphasized the need to investigate the circumstances surrounding Zelenskyy's transportation on a Department of the Air Force aircraft to Pennsylvania, where he met with Governor Josh Shapiro.
Additionally, Comer referenced Zelenskyy's critical remarks about former President Trump and Senator JD Vance, labeling the latter as 'too radical.' The committee expressed concerns over the foreign leader's statements released ahead of his U.S.-taxpayer funded visit, suggesting potential political motives.
Comer's letters to Attorney General Merrick Garland underscored the DOJ's focus on combating foreign election interference, emphasizing the committee's stance against any foreign actor meddling in American elections. The requests for documents and records from the agencies are expected to be fulfilled by October 2.
