During today's Biden impeachment inquiry hearing, the House Oversight Committee Republicans left an open seat for Hunter Biden, who declined their invitation to appear. The committee's GOP majority is looking into allegations that Biden and his family profited from their political connections, particularly during his time as vice president.
The focus of the investigation has been on Hunter Biden's foreign business activities in Ukraine and China. Both he and the White House have denied any wrongdoing, dismissing claims of influence peddling while Biden was vice president.
Instead of hearing from Hunter Biden directly, the committee is listening to testimonies from his former business associates. Tony Bobulinski, one of the associates, has informed investigators that the Biden family was offering access to the current president. The other associate, Jason Galanis, who is currently serving time in prison for securities fraud, will be testifying remotely.
Hunter Biden's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, criticized the committee's proceedings, stating that it was a media event rather than a legitimate inquiry. Lowell described the hearing as a last-ditch effort to salvage a lost cause.
