House Homeland Security Committee Subpoenas DHS Secretary For Documents

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Mayorkas speaks at a news conference in New York

The House Homeland Security Committee has taken action by issuing a subpoena to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for documents and information related to the unsuccessful security measures during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Chairman Mark Green of the Republican-led committee confirmed the issuance of the subpoena after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) missed the deadline for providing the requested documents and information.

The committee's press release stated, 'The subpoena was necessitated by the department's failure to respond and comply with Committee requests for documents and information. Chairman Green had initially requested documents and information on July 14 regarding DHS' preparations for the July 13 rally and their immediate response to the incident involving the former president. DHS did not meet the deadline set by Chairman Green for the submission of these documents.'

Subpoena was issued due to DHS missing deadline for document submission.

Documents requested include security plan for event site perimeter and communications among DHS personnel.

Among the documents requested by the committee are those pertaining to 'the security plan implemented to secure the event site perimeter' and 'communications exchanged among DHS personnel regarding any potential reinforcement or addition of protective resources to President Trump's security detail.'

This development underscores the escalating scrutiny surrounding the security protocols in place during the event and the subsequent response to the security breach. The committee's efforts to obtain these critical documents aim to shed light on the sequence of events and decision-making processes that transpired during the incident.
