House Homeland Security Chair Accuses Former Secret Service Director

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testifies before a Homeland Security Subcommittee, in Washington

House Homeland Security Committee chair Mark Green has accused former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle of providing him with what he believes to be a false statement during their conversation. Green, a GOP congressman from Tennessee, stated that Cheatle had informed him that the FBI had restricted her from communicating with her own team due to an ongoing investigation. However, Green revealed that he had spoken to the deputy director of the FBI, who refuted Cheatle's claim, stating that the FBI does not impose such constraints.

When questioned about whether he believed Cheatle had lied to him, Green responded by highlighting that the information provided to him was inaccurate based on the FBI's clarification. Expressing his disappointment, Green emphasized the importance of receiving accurate information in such matters.

Green expressed his interest in participating in the bipartisan task force established to investigate the assassination attempt. However, he mentioned that his committee would continue its own investigation until directed otherwise by House Speaker Mike Johnson to defer to the task force.

Despite the potential formation of a task force, Green asserted his belief that his committee's ongoing efforts were sufficient in addressing the situation. He emphasized the committee's commitment to the investigation and its readiness to delve deeper into the matter.
