House GOP Chair introduces resolution condemning 'Border Czar' Harris' role in the 'border crisis'

House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik has introduced a resolution to condemn Vice President Kamala Harris role in immigration enforcement, part of the GOP's initiative to link her with the issue following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential elections and endorsement of her.

Stefanik, who is also calling Harris the "Border Czar," said in a statement that her "failed leadership led to the most catastrophic open border crisis in history." "Biden's open border czar Kamala Harris, and every elected Democrat is responsible for this border crisis and they must all be held accountable for their role in jeopardizing our national security and turning every community into a border community," the statement adds.

It goes on to say that "millions of illegals have poured into our country because of the Biden-Harris Administration's unconstitutional, illegal executive actions," which, "wiped away" former President Donald Trump's "effective border security policies which created the most secure border in modern history."

"Kamala Harris failed as Border czar leading to violent crimes, rapes, and murders of innocent Americans. We will hold her and Far Left Democrats accountable," the message concludes.

The measure follows a series of statements and measures by GOP representatives aimed at keeping the issue at the top of the national conversation. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, on his end, said state authorities have reinforced the border along the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez sector with "triple-strand" razor wire.

"Joe Biden has now endorsed and fully supports his 'Border Czar,' Kamala Harris, to be the Democratic candidate for president. I think I will need to triple the border wall, razor wire barriers, and the National Guard on the border," said Abbott after Biden made his announcement. He announced he had followed through a few days later.

Other officials who have followed that line of argument are Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Charles Cunningham. The former said that on a scale of 1 to 100, he'd rate Harris' involvement with dealing with unauthorized migration a "negative 6,003," according to a report by the Texas Tribune.

Cunningham, on his end, riticized Harris for not visiting the border more often during her tenure as VP, claiming that during his trips to Rio Grande, he was stunned to see migrants from Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

However, unlike the GOP officials allege, Harris was not tasked to be the administration's "border czar" or to oversee immigration policy and enforcement in the U.S.-Mexico border. That role is mainly given to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and his department, which oversees the country's main three immigration agencies, including Customs and Border Protection.

Under her assignment, Harris has primarily been focused on convincing companies to invest in Central America and promoting development through democracy.

Harris did receive criticism over her performance, especially as a result of "doubts around her exact role, early media misfires and the rapidly changing regional migration crisis," Axios reported.
