Earlier this month, House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul was detained at Dulles Airport after appearing intoxicated. The incident occurred when McCaul, who had consumed the sleep aid Ambien and alcohol, was disoriented from the medication and alcohol he had taken before boarding a flight home to Texas.
Reported by Semafor and confirmed by a spokesperson for the congressman, McCaul missed his flight and locked himself out of his cell phone. Subsequently, police detained him, assuming he was intoxicated.
In a statement, McCaul took full responsibility for the incident, acknowledging that he made a mistake by mixing Ambien with alcohol. He expressed gratitude to the officers who found him and stated his determination to learn from the error.
McCaul emphasized that the incident does not reflect his true character and that he is committed to self-improvement. He acknowledged his imperfections as a human but expressed his resolve to become a better person moving forward.
