During a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, leaders of the House DOGE caucus unveiled an ambitious plan to tackle federal spending by forming eight working groups. These bipartisan groups, each co-led by a Democrat and a Republican, will focus on key areas such as Retirement Safety Net & Family Support, Emergency Supplements, Natural Resources & Permitting, Homeland & Legal (Judiciary), Defense & VA, Workforce & Infrastructure, Finance, and Government Operations.
The House caucus, led by GOP Reps. Aaron Bean and Pete Sessions, aims to submit a report to Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy by the end of the first quarter. Their goal is to introduce legislation that will not rely on the reconciliation process but rather garner bipartisan support in both chambers. Bean even proposed the concept of 'DOGE days,' where caucus members would collectively introduce 30-50 bills at once.
While the lawmakers' efforts are distinct from anticipated executive orders related to DOGE by the Trump administration, they plan to maintain regular communication. Bean and Sessions have already received over 15,000 emails from individuals nationwide, offering suggestions on areas to reduce spending, which will be considered in their legislative work.
