The House Democratic Caucus meeting concluded after nearly two hours, with members describing it as a 'listening session.' Approximately 30 Democrats participated in the closed-door meeting, taking turns to speak at open microphones.
New York Rep. Gregory Meeks characterized the meeting as an opportunity for members to voice their opinions and concerns. Maryland Rep. Glenn Ivey mentioned that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was actively listening to the discussions, emphasizing that the session was organized to gather feedback.
Despite the lengthy discussions, no consensus was reached during the meeting. As a result, various factions within the Democratic caucus are planning to hold separate meetings throughout the day. The Congressional Black Caucus and the New Democrats have both scheduled meetings to further address the issues raised.
During the meeting, some members referenced polling data and shared the concerns expressed by their constituents. However, Ivey noted that due to the format of the meeting, there were no heated arguments or confrontations.
When asked about the overall atmosphere in the room, Virginia Rep. Jennifer McClellan stated that the mood was focused on being 'ready to win,' reflecting a sense of determination and unity among the Democratic members.
